New Hampshire Passes Transgender Nondiscrimination Protections

On May 2, 2018, the Republican-led legislature of New Hampshire passed HB 1319, extending comprehensive nondiscrimination protections to transgender Granite Staters. Governor Chris Sununu has confirmed his intention to sign it into law.

Equality Federation provided analysis, tools, and data to support Freedom New Hampshire’s outreach and activation efforts to have constituents contact their lawmakers.

Fran Hutchins, deputy director of Equality Federation, said, “This victory is what happens when we all come together, across partisan lines, to support fairness and freedom for all. Every American, including transgender people and their families, deserves the opportunity to thrive free of discrimination. I couldn’t be more proud of all the volunteers and all of the transgender Granite Staters who shared their stories to help make history today.”

Linds Jakows, campaign manager for Freedom NH, added “Granite Staters from all walks of life have gotten the opportunity to meet their transgender neighbors and have come to understand that HB 1319 is about making sure that everyone has the opportunity to truly live free. We are so grateful to the bipartisan coalition of New Hampshire House members who voted to champion opportunity for all, and we urge the Senate to swiftly send HB 1319 to the governor’s desk.”
