With the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. Forest Service and an abundance of activities and wildlife, Puerto Rico is the perfect getaway for those longing for adventure. Below are a few attractions worth visiting:
El Yunque – The only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest Service, El Yunque is a very diverse ecosystem that hosts hundred of unique plant and animal species including Puerto Rico’s coqui frog. Those who visit the rainforest can experience the lands by hiking to one of the many natural pools for a swim, or by horseback. If looking for a complete outdoor experience, you can even stay inside the park at Casa Cubuy, a rustic location with spectacular views of the waterfalls and cliffs.
Hacienda La Mocha – Experience one of Puerto Rico’s incredible coffee haciendas, or plantations, and witness the rise in sustainable practices. Hacienda La Mocha is a family-owned coffee farm and eco-hotel where guests can stay overnight and enjoy the grounds through walking tours. There is even a bird and butterfly sanctuary on the grounds where visitors can witness those ecosystems.
Toro Verde Adventure Park – For those looking from an adrenaline-pumping adventure, Toro Verde Adventure Park is home to the longest zipline in this hemisphere. El Monstruo is a 2.5km zipline that allows guests to witness Puerto Rico’s mountain range and ecosystem.
