Pride Journey Outdoors: Champaign, Illinois

Built as a private residence by artist and philanthropist Robert Allerton in 1900, Allerton Park and Retreat Center offers a unique opportunity to experience art, nature, and history away from the distractions of everyday life. Explore 14 miles of hiking trails, wander through formal gardens with over 100 garden ornaments, marvel at the century-old Mansion, and find peace in the quiet, expansive grounds.

Donated to the University of Illinois in 1946, the retreat serves as a haven to all. Allerton is a popular wedding destination especially for the LGBTQ+ community, with guests utilizing the mansion and the gardens to create the perfect setting. The park was named one of the Seven Wonders of Illinois, with many ways to explore the beautiful estate. Walks in the peony garden in late May, hikes along the Sangamon River during the height of fall foliage, and nights on the meadow listening to live music are all unforgettable experiences to be had at this free, public park.
