Pride Journey Outdoors: Oklahoma City

Everybody knows Oklahoma City is one of my favorite destinations in the country. They are a surprise jewel that is worth exploring and the city even has a thriving gay neighborhood you should check out if you have time after taking part in these outdoor activities:

Scissortail Park: Oklahoma City’s new 40-acre downtown park features a plethora of native prairie grasses, lush flower gardens and tree-lined walkways, a children’s park area, outdoor concert stage, dog park, lake, roller rink and more. Head to the boathouse on Scissortail Lake to rent pedal boats, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards on the 3.7-acre lake or catch a concert on the Great Lawn at the outdoor stage. With an additional 30-acres of the park opening in 2021 and many more activities to come, there is plenty of room to spread out and social distance while enjoying a full day at Scissortail Park.

Lake Hefner: One popular spot among the locals for all kinds of recreation is Lake Hefner. On any given day, you’ll find walkers, runners, bicyclers, roller-bladers, skateboarders and more enjoying the trails that circle the lake. Catch some of the city’s most glorious sunsets at Lake Hefner, as well as some waves, especially if you’re into sailing or water sports like kitesurfing. Surrounded by local restaurants, Lake Hefner also offers a variety of indoor and outdoor dining options to indulge while enjoying the view.

Boathouse District: Whether you want to train like an Olympian or just have some fun, the Boathouse District along the Oklahoma River is a hotspot for outdoor recreation. Located within walking distance of the Bricktown Entertainment District, adventure seekers can enjoy canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, an 80-foot ropes course and 700-foot zip line, whitewater rafting and more at the Boathouse District. OKC's state-of-the-art whitewater rafting and kayaking facility offers both family fun and elite athlete training so no matter your athletic ability, the Boathouse District is a must-do OKC experience.
