‘Tis the season to welcome back holiday events and excitement!
All aboard? Perfect! Visitors to Carson City, Nevada can experience one of their favorite holiday books come to life with the Polar Express™. This one-hour journey aboard the V&T Railway offers a magical experience for children and children at heart. The evening train ride departs from Carson City’s Eastgate Depot and travelers will enjoy hot chocolate, cookies and even receive their very own keepsake – a silver bell. Passengers are encouraged to wear their pajamas and children won’t be disappointed as the entire experience is made complete by a visit with Santa Claus himself.
Cost for the experience ranges between $25-45 and children 24 months and under ride free when sitting on a parent’s lap. A $10 historical fee is added to all rides, which helps support and maintain the V&T Railway trains and tracks. The event is mostly sold out, however a few midweek and specialty tickets are remaining now through Christmas. Per state mandate, masks are required indoors which includes the depot as well as on the train.
Those looking to see the sites at Nevada’s State Capitol Complex will see it sparkle this year as Silver & Snowflakes Festival of Lights brings visitors downtown to celebrate the annual tree lighting of the state and city Christmas trees. So, mark your calendars for 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3 at the State Capitol Grounds. During the event, attendees will enjoy seeing a performance by Carson City’s fifth graders, a visit from St. Nick and plenty of fun surprises.
Another way to share in the spirit of the holidays is to participate in the 6th annual Holiday Crawl from 5-10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021. This adult event – must be 21 and over to participate – is a great way to check out the food and drink scene in Carson City as numerous restaurants, breweries and local businesses participate. Cost is $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event. All proceeds from the event benefit Holiday with a Hero and their mission to provide proper Christmas to children in the Students-in-Transition program within the Carson City School District.
Finally, visitors can enjoy the ultimate Nevada holiday market with Homestead Holidays, taking place from 5-8 p.m. Dec. 10-12 at Silver Saddle Ranch. Take a step back in time and experience holiday shopping on an entirely different level. The event offers a Christmas Craft Market perfect for last-minute or non-traditional gifts, photos with Santa, live music, wagon rides, food and drinks, and much more.
