Celebrate the Holidays in Copenhagen, Denmark

A trip to Tivoli in December is a must. 1 million lights, 1000 Christmas trees, and 10 tons of fir branches decorate the Garden, while the Christmas market offers everything from Danish æbleskiver to handmade ornaments. This year’s theme is Festival of Hearts, decorative hearts will be placed all over the park, the biggest one is located outside of the palace-like Nimb Hotel, where you can also go for H.C. Andersen inspired cocktails.

In Copenhagen there are quite a few ice-skating rinks, a favorite is the Bridge Street Kitchen Ice Rink located between Christianshavn and Nyhavn. Here you can combine ice-skating with delicious street food while enjoying the harbor views. Try out the famous gløgg - a Scandinavian mulled wine made with almonds, raisins, and spices.

Just around the corner from The New Square you can try Danish Smørrebrød -– open-faced sandwiches, and traditional Christmas dishes at restaurant Kronborg, not to be mistaken with Kronborg Castle (which is also worth a visit for Christmas). The cozy atmosphere and open fireplace will definitely get you in the hygge-mood.
