What to do
Can’t Go International? This domestic Christmas market is a great alternative. Carmel, Indiana’s Christkindlmarkt transports visitors to a wintery European market, complete with 50 German vendors selling a variety of authentic German presents. While wandering through the market, don't forget to pick up a hot mug of Glühwein (mulled wine) or hot cocoa and skate on The Ice at Carter Green! Guests will truly wonder if the cameras are rolling because the ambiance is practically identical to a holiday Hallmark movie.
Stroll through a winter wonderland. The Merry Prairie Holiday Festival at Conner Prairie draws inspiration from the past through Prairietown. Visitors can step into the 1800s and learn about the Christmas Eve traditions from the past. Guests can also enjoy strolling through holiday light displays, sliding down the Polar Bear Plunge sledding hill, visiting the North Pole, and shopping for holiday gifts.
Experience a real-life version of The Polar Express. Board the Nickel Plate Express for a one-of-a-kind holiday experience. Their seasonal rides include the Reindeer Ride Express, complete with hot cocoa and a visit to Santa’s Workshop, and the 21+ Holiday Cheer(s) ride.
Where to stay
The Hotel Carmichael, a name which is also a nod to the legendary Grammy/Emmy award winner, Michael Feinstein—is like a 1920’s songbook came to life in the form of a luxurious boutique hotel. Visitors are immediately welcomed by a grand staircase with four massive chandeliers, along with bold black-and-white checkered floor and a black marble check-in desk. The 1920’s inspired hotel is in the Arts and Design district in the heart of Central Indiana. A prime location during the holidays as it is only steps away from the iconic Christkindlmarkt.
