The charming coastal destination of Newport, Rhode Island transforms into a magical winter wonderland during the holiday season, with its historic mansions adorned in festive lights, quaint streets dusted with snow and the cozy waterfront restaurants offering seasonal delights, making it a perfect holiday town to create cherished winter memories. Guests can warm up with The Black Pearl’s famous clam chowder or enjoy a hearty seasonal meal at White Horse Tavern, America’s oldest tavern. After exploring the destination, settle in to The Chanler at Cliff Walk or Forty 1° North which both offer cozy fireplaces in all rooms and suites.
Continuing their new annual tradition, The Breakers Mansion is having a Sparkling Lights event for the fourth year, where visitors’ eyes will shine as they admire the holiday lights that cover approximately half of the 13-acre property. From Nov. 17 - Dec. 30, 2023, The Breakers is the ultimate spot for guests to feel like they’re in a winter wonderland while surrounded by lights and holiday music. After the light show, guests may warm up and enjoy holiday treats and adult beverages for purchase at the back terrace and The Breakers Welcome Center. Guests are invited to come watch the most iconic holiday ballet performance, The Nutcracker, at Rosecliff Mansion from Nov. 22 through Dec. 1. This two hour performance, including an intermission begins with the first act being an experiential journey through the rooms of the historic mansion, where guests will walk and stand to watch the story unfold. Some unassigned seats are available for those who need. The second act unfolds in the grand ballroom which is transformed into the Land of the Sweets. From Dec. 9 - 10, the Bristol Christmas Festival Committee is hosting a European style Christmas market filled with holiday festivities fit for the family. Parents may indulge in foods from different cultures as they come across European styled huts and find meaningful gifts for their loved ones, while kids can take part in arts and crafts and tell Santa what they wish for while taking a complimentary photo. Surrounded by lights and singing carolers, visitors will feel like they’re in a Christmas wonderland.
Guests can keep toasty while they share in some s’mores and holiday merriment while cozying up by the lit fire pits spread out along the hotel’s outdoor terrace. Available on the weekends from Nov. 13 to Dec. 17, groups may enjoy a private fire pit for two hours with traditional s’mores and treats buffet for guests and their crew for a set price of $275. Made-from-scratch hot chocolate, hot local apple cider and one round of “spiked” drinks for up to six guests will be offered along with three fleece blankets to keep warm and take home afterwards.
Open from Nov. 25 - March 24, 2024, guests may experience the essence of the holiday season at The Chanler at Cliff Walk's Hot Chocolate Bar. It's an ideal prelude to your leisurely stroll along the Cliff Walk, where you can take in crystal ocean views. Delight in the open-air setting as you indulge in a meticulously crafted hot chocolate, offering your choice of creamy milk or sumptuous dark chocolate. Head to The Reef for a season of igloo dining overlooking Newport Harbor. Each igloo can fit up to 8 guests, and offer a full cocktail, wine and winter menu to choose from. $100 (plus tax) rental fee covers guests' use of the igloo for 2 hours & 20 minutes, There is a $25 Food and Beverage minimum per person for lunch and $50 per person for dinner.
