Historic Madison, Indiana Named #1 Best Small Town in the Midwest for Second Consecutive Year

For the second year in a row, Madison, Indiana has claimed the top spot as the #1 Best Small Town in the Midwest in USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. This consecutive win highlights the town’s rich history, thriving tourism scene, and unmistakable charm that continues to capture hearts across the region.

Chosen through a competitive process that included expert nominations and four weeks of public voting, Madison stood out among a field of exceptional small towns. “We’re absolutely thrilled and honored by this recognition,” said Andrew Forrester, Executive Tourism Director for Madison. “This award means even more because it comes from the people—our residents and our visitors—who truly love and believe in our town.”

This latest honor adds to an already impressive list of recent accolades for Madison. The town was awarded the 2024 Great American Main Street Award, recognizing excellence in downtown revitalization and historic preservation. It was also named Community of the Year by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce for its economic development, community engagement, and high quality of life.

As Madison continues to grow and evolve, new attractions are on the horizon. This year, visitors can enjoy an all-new trolley program, offering guided tours, themed experiences, and private rentals. Details of the rebrand will be unveiled during National Travel & Tourism Week (NTTW) in May.

Memorial Day weekend will also bring a brand-new event to the riverfront—Rumble on the River, debuting May 25. The event will showcase vintage and custom vehicles along the scenic waterfront, followed by a commemorative ride on REVerie Roads on May 26, inviting motorcyclists and car enthusiasts to experience Madison’s winding routes and stunning views.
