The Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City, located in the heart of downtown has announced its completion of an extensive, four-month renovation. Offering a unique blend of heritage and modern luxury, the hotel has been infused with a clean and updated aesthetic, which comes alive in every corner of the hotel, from guestrooms and public spaces to the restaurant and bar.
Housed in Salt Lake City’s “Continental Bank” building, built in 1928, the hotel simultaneously takes pride in its history, both architecturally and geologically, while also ushering in a new era. The inviting design offers guests an energetic atmosphere that is paired with bespoke hospitality, where every detail has been meticulously curated to provide a personalized and exceptional experience, all amidst spectacular views of downtown and nearby mountains. The hotel leans into its longstanding history and connection to Salt Lake City with a lively mood that amplifies throughout the day.
Led by Los Angeles-based design firm Beleco, the relaxing neutral color palette of grey, blue, cream and white gracefully weaves the region’s rich geological history and natural elements into the experience. Salt crystal-inspired light fixtures and décor mirror the panoramic views of the Great Salt Lake and an eclectic collection of local artwork deepens the connection to Salt Lake City. The hotel’s rich leathers, plush textures and comfortable design provide a welcoming launching point for urban exploration or outdoor adventures in Utah’s natural wonders. Guests are invited into check-in next to the cozy living room before enjoying their thoughtfully designed guestroom, many with unique footprints and clever details.
The hotel’s 3,100 square feet of flexible meeting space were also included in the renovation, offering elevated spaces for everything from private business functions or intimate social gatherings. The hotel’s three venues all come with breathtaking scenery and the option to take advantage of catering from Executive Chef Patrick LeBeau. Those who book a 2024 program before the end of the year are eligible for one perk per day of the program, with the choice of a locally inspired break package, a private yoga session, an elevated executive meeting boardroom set, and more.
“Beyond cosmetic changes, the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City has undergone a complete transformation,” said Nathan Sporbert, the hotel’s general manager. “Every corner of the property has been thoughtfully revitalized to not only enhance the historically aesthetic charm but also elevate the comfort and functionality. We are looking forward to our guests’ exploration of our entirely reimagined space, allowing them to rediscover and forge connections while exploring everything the area has to offer.
The modernity of the guest rooms flows into the two separate food and beverage concepts, including the beloved Bambara, led by Executive Chef Patrick LeBeau. The lively Bambara now envelops diners in an upscale yet inviting ambiance marked by a chic black and white décor palate, wood tables and vibrant energy, and continues to serve as the go-to downtown restaurant for those seeking a genuine, heartfelt and delicious night out. While the space and menu have an entirely new look and feel, the service, quality, and overall experience will feel familiar and comfortable.
Guests will enjoy a rotating menu that highlights traditional fare infused with local game and seasonal ingredients, including starters like the Prosciutto Beignets with pear compote, arugula, and snow white cheddar; as well as signatures entrees like the Bison Wellington, served with mushroom duxelles, prosciutto, and puff pastry, and the Elk Osso Bucco, paired with garlic confit, meyer lemon gremolata, parmesan polenta and roasted carrots. The wine list has also been overhauled and curated to pair perfectly with the new menu, further enhancing the overall dining experience.
Located next door, the property unveils The Vault, a name that honors the building’s bank origins; an intimate, modern lounge that exudes a trendy, moody and seductive vibe. Let the music set the mood with soulful tunes as you unwind with creative cocktails and shared bites. The bar, which has its own entrance on 200 South, seamlessly blends past with present featuring a rich oak and natural stone bar, deep midnight blue backdrop, and soft lounge seating that’s perfectly fit for a night out with friends or an intimate date. Here, the art of cocktail creation is an immersive experience, with knowledgeable bartenders who take pride in their craft, ensuring every drink is a work of art.
Nosh on a Caviar Dreams plate, with house-made mozzarella sticks, smoked tomato jam and caviar; and the Devil Went Down to Utah appetizer, where deviled eggs are paired with truffles and house made pickles. For carefully crafted classic cocktails, sophisticated zero-proof cocktails and more, the knowledgeable bartenders are experts in their field. The upscale cocktail program is heavy on dark liquors and gin with unique, exciting options such as the Brown Derby, a mix of bourbon, grapefruit, honey and lemon; the Trinidad Sour, featuring angostura bitters, rye, lemon and orgeat; and the Hemmingway Daiquiri, which consists of rum, Luxardo, grapefruit and lime.
