LGBTQ Travelers Embracing Lawrence, Kansas - An Inclusive Gem of the Midwest

The small city of Lawrence, Kansas, home to the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University, is one of the most open and welcoming cities in the state. Lawrence’s most popular tourist destination is its downtown district, centered around the iconic Massachusetts (“Mass”) Street. On Mass Street, boutique shopping, tasty local restaurants, cocktail bars, and live music venues are abundant.

The luxury LGBTQ+ traveler would enjoy a stay at the historic Eldridge Hotel on Mass Street. Dine at the hotel’s in-house restaurant or head down the street to 715, an upscale Italian-style bistro focusing on Tuscan-inspired cuisine created from locally sourced ingredients. Go for a stroll and do some shopping at the dozens of unique boutiques on Mass Street. Catch a show or film across the street from the Eldridge Hotel at the beautiful Liberty Hall, re-erected after a fire in 1912, and an independent cinema, live music venue, and community gathering spot since 1986. End the evening with an artfully crafted cocktail at John Brown’s Underground or Henry’s Upstairs. In the morning, attend an “Eggs and Legs” Drag Brunch at Henry’s Upstairs’ partner coffee shop, Grounded Coffee.
