Light up your Western spirit during the holidays in Carson City, Nevada


Carson City, Nevada’s seasonal activities offer families and travelers a chance to delight in experiencing holiday magic together – with a Western twist!


Grab your boots and giddy up with your loved ones to enjoy the Holidays on the Ranch Wagon Rides at the Silver Saddle Ranch from 2-5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16 and Sunday, Dec. 17. Tickets are $10 per person and must be reserved in advance. You can also visit Santa Claus aboard a historic rail car at the Nevada State Railroad Museum during the annual Santa Train rides from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Dec. 9, 10, 16 and 17. Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased at the museum.


While in town, take a stroll back through time as you explore Carson City’s 2.5-mile Kit Carson Trail to marvel at Victorian-era architecture and see historic homes decorated for the holiday season. Be sure to stop at the Governor’s Mansion and the Capitol building, which feature dazzling holiday lights.


Nearby Lake Tahoe experiences heavy snow throughout the season, but winter in Carson City is typically gentler with much less snowfall, making it an ideal winter destination for outdoor activities. Travelers can explore Prison Hill Recreation Area’s trail options for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and more. From this area, you can savor breathtaking views of the snow-capped Carson Range and Pine Nut Mountains. If you’re lucky, your Western spirit will burn extra bright if you catch a glimpse of the wild mustangs that roam the area.
