New in '22: Iowa City

New on the Pedestrian Mall in Downtown Iowa City, Riverside Theatre is set to open their brand-new location in February 2022. Experience professional theatrical performances unlike any others in the area. The quaint 150 seat, 6,800 square foot location is state-of-the-art and is part of renovations being made to the historic Crescent Block Building. The theatre will make its’ home on the third floor. Guests will enter from the first floor off the Ped Mall at College Street. The lobby doubles as a reception and event space. The relocation of the theatre creates a unique arts district in Iowa City with the historic Englert Theater, FilmScene boutique movie theater, and the University of Iowa’s Voxman Music Hall all within one block. Teaming with local restaurants and bars, national and boutique hotels, a night out in Downtown Iowa City is ripe for adventure.

One of the leading university art collections in the country is about to get better in 2022. The University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art is opening a their new building in September 2022. Located in the heart of campus near Downtown Iowa City, the building will be 60,000 square feet with more than 16,500 square feet of exhibition space.

The museum features approximately 15,500 objects including paintings, sculptures, photographs, prints, and more. The collection contains works comes from the likes of Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and the enormous Mural by Jackson Pollock. Admission into the museum is free.
