Out Scuba Launches as a Nonprofit to Unite LGBTQIA+ Divers and Promote Marine Conservation

A passionate group of LGBTQIA+ scuba enthusiasts has launched Out Scuba, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering an inclusive, welcoming space for divers of all backgrounds. With a mission to build community, promote diversity in the diving world, and support marine conservation efforts, Out Scuba offers a platform for LGBTQIA+ adventurers to explore the underwater world together.

“We are a vibrant and inclusive community of LGBTQIA+ scuba divers and ocean lovers,” says Christopher Duncan, a Fort Lauderdale small business owner and one of the organization's founders. “Out Scuba is about more than just diving—it’s about creating unforgettable experiences, lifelong connections, and advocating for inclusivity in the sport we love.”

While initially focused on the South Florida region, Out Scuba welcomes members from across the country, including those visiting Fort Lauderdale to explore its world-renowned barrier reef system. The organization envisions expanding its reach through nationwide programming and local chapters in the future.

Through group dives, training programs, social events, and environmental initiatives, Out Scuba is building a supportive network for divers of all experience levels—from beginners to seasoned professionals. Duncan, a certified diver since 2006 and former PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, emphasizes the importance of fostering a space where everyone feels safe and empowered to dive.

The organization recently achieved 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, allowing it to receive tax-deductible donations and access funding opportunities to support its mission.

“This milestone strengthens our ability to serve the community, promote inclusivity, and advance marine conservation,” says Andre Saade, a co-founder and life sciences industry professional specializing in technology and program management. “It also reinforces our commitment to transparency, accountability, and the public good. We’re thrilled for what’s ahead and can’t wait to dive into new adventures with our LGBTQIA+ friends.”
