Property Review: Hilton Columbus Downtown

Columbus, Ohio is one of my favorite destinations to visit in the country. On a recent trip, my first since the COVID-19 outbreak, I stayed at the Hilton Columbus Downtown. I am a bit hesitant to travel anywhere during this time, but was quickly comforted by the hotel's cleaning procedures and abundance of cautionary strategies the staff has implemented to make guests feel comfortable. The check-in process is quick and easy, with plexiglass dividers between guests and staff. Sanitizing stations are set up throughout the property and masks are required in all common spaces.

Here are a few other items I loved about this hotel:

The Art

Columbus is known for its art-centric hotels and the Hilton Columbus Downtown is no different. The amount of beautiful artwork on display around the property is staggering, especially in the Gallerie Bar & Bistro. I was quite surprised to see art hanging on the ceiling in the room.

The Room

This is probably by far the most concerning feature of any property during COVID-19. You never know who slept in the room prior to you and that is always a bit unnerving. However, every room in the Hilton has a clean seal tapped to the hotel door notifying guests that their room has been thoroughly sanitized.

The Location

The Hilton Downtown is just a few minutes from all of the activities located in the Short North district of Columbus. Here is where you will find dozens of shops, restaurants and LGBTQ nightlife establishments, including Union Café. My friend and I decided to venture out cautiously for a quick cocktail and found a table at Union that was completely surrounding by plexiglass barriers. The friendly staff at Union made us feel welcome and although we were in a bubble-like enclosure, we still felt like we were part of the party.

The Amenities

It’s not everyday you find an indoor pool at a downtown hotel. The spa-like pool is exactly what guests need after a long day exploring the city, most notably the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium, just a short 20-minute drive from the hotel.
