Springtime in Saugatuck

Spring is the time for renewal and rejuvenation, and there’s no better place than Saugatuck/Douglas to usher in the splendor of the season. Their charming coastal towns have lots to offer by way of outdoor activities that let you appreciate all of nature’s glory. Enjoy the sunshine on one of our pristine beaches, like award-winning Oval Beach. Spend the day hiking the Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area, where you can see the remnants of the historic Fishtown pier, delicate wetlands, and a long, peaceful strip of the Lake Michigan shoreline. Or wander the sandy forest paths of Saugatuck Dunes State Park for a hike overlooking the dunes.

Play a round of golf at one of our premier golf courses, which include The Ravines Golf Club or Clearbrook Golf Club. Each course provides idyllic views, challenging golf, and extraordinary clubhouse experiences. Beginning in May, glide leisurely along our waterways with a private sailboat charter or on the Schooner Serenity, Saugatuck’s only authentic Tall Ship. Or take a cruise on the Star of Saugatuck, a 51-ton double-decker paddlewheel boat that travels along Saugatuck Harbor on the Kalamazoo River and out into Lake Michigan.

For a spring-time farm experience, visit Evergreen Lane Farm & Creamery, where you can savor artisan cheeses and visit the frolicking goats. Or enjoy proper farmhouse cider at Virtue Cider and see the heritage-breed pigs, chickens, and ducks that call the farm their home. Beginning in May, Summerhouse Lavender Farm opens its doors. Delight in the calming smell of lavender as you wander through their peaceful garden spaces.

In addition to the great outdoors, the area features a host of art galleries and artist studios that give the region the distinction as the Art Coast of Michigan. For galleries that make the most out of their unique locations, visit the Khnemu Studio located on the 30-acre sustainable Fernwood Farm for one-of-a-kind pottery. Or stop by Dawn Stafford‘s Peachbelt Studio to see original oil paintings exhibited in a rural, historic one-room schoolhouse flanked by beautiful gardens. Plan your stay and discover all the invigorating spring activities waiting for you in Saugatuck/Douglas.
