Winter Wonderland: Duluth, Minnesota



You don’t have to go all the way to the North Pole for a winter wonderland getaway – Duluth, Minnesota, brings holiday cheer for all to enjoy, all season long. Situated right on Great Lake Superior, this vibrant city brings holiday charm to the next level. In fact, this past year, a holiday feature movie, “Merry Kiss Cam,” was filmed in Duluth. With glistening snow, frosted trees, frozen lakes and plenty of holiday festivities, it’s the perfect place to make your spirits bright.


Here are a few highlights:


Kick off the season at the Christmas City of the North Parade: A Northland holiday tradition since 1958, the parade features marching bands, dance performances, colorful floats, and even an appearance by Santa Claus. The parade is held Friday, Nov. 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.


Marvel at America’s largest free walk-through lighting display: Bundle up and take a stroll through the free magical lights display at the Bentleyville Tour of Lights, complete with more than four million lights, free hot cocoa, treats and merriment for all. Plus, keep your eyes open for Santa and Mrs. Claus! Open November 19-December 26, 2022, it’s a can’t-miss to get into the holiday spirit.


Find the perfect gift at Duluth Winter Village: Featuring local shops, hot drinks, carolers and firepits, the Duluth Winter Village brings “the best of Duluth” together for a weekend of holiday cheer just outside the DECC (Duluth Entertainment Convention Center). Guests can also enjoy craft beer in the Yule Hall, along with themed holiday cocktails.


Climb aboard the North Shore Scenic Railroad for holiday rides: Hop on the Christmas City Express train for memorable experience, full of holiday cheer. The experience includes a Christmas story reading, performances from carolers and a visit from a special guest. Plus, you can sip on free hot chocolate and indulge in holiday cookies, all while enjoying the views from the beautiful North Shore Scenic Railroad.


Enjoy outside adventures in a winter wonderland: Lace up your ice-skates at Bayfront Festival Park, situated with a stunning view of Lake Superior and the city, complete with a warming house and concessions. Looking for a winter adventure? Visit one of Duluth’s many city parks for a day of snowshoeing, get out on a cross-country ski trail, or hit the slopes at Spirit Mountain.


Warm your body and spirit with a show: Duluth’s vibrant arts scene shines brightly, especially in the winter. Experience a performance at the Duluth Playhouse, live improv at Zeitgeist, live shows at the West Theatre or Wussow’s Concert Café, stand-up comedy at The Boat Club, performances from Duluth-based Minnesota Ballet, concerts from the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and more.
